【Day2】22 Apr 2023

To Hokuriku for First Time

It was a cold morning on day two. The sun was strong but the wind was cold, so if you didn’t wear a light down jacket or something, you would shiver. The entrants and mechanics were warming up the engine early in the morning and getting ready for their departure. This is the start of the day when they drive the longest distance in the four days.

The entrants set off from the hotel at 7:00 am and headed to the Takayama City Library. After receiving the first stamp of day two there, they started a PC competition. They drove through the atmospheric old street of Hida Takayama and headed to Hokuriku.

After leaving Gifu Prefecture, the entrants traveled to Nanto City in Toyama Prefecture. They received a stamp at World Heritage Site Ainokura Village, then competed a PC competition at the nearby Taira Ski Resort. After the competition, they traveled north to Michi-no-Eki Inami and received the third stamp there, then headed to Oyabe City.

In Oyabe City, the entrants received a stamp and took a break on the shopping street in front of Isurugi Station. The street was closed to traffic for this event and many local people welcomed the entrants with a band performing live. It was like a festival.

The entrants left Toyama Prefecture and traveled to Ishikawa Prefecture, heading to Chirihama Beach. They drove through the Chirihama Nagisa Driveway, the only sandy beach open to cars in Japan, then enjoyed a delicious lunch at NOTO-CHIRIHAMA RESTHOUSE while viewing the Sea of Japan.

After lunch, the entrants drove on the Chirihama Nagisa Driveway again to Anamizu Town. After receiving a stamp at Neki Poket Park along Nanao Bay, they headed to Noto Town.

The entrants received a stamp at Ikanoeki Tsukumall facing Tsukumo Bay characterized by a deeply indented coastline on the east of the Noto Peninsula, then competed a PC competition with the giant squid monument, Ika King, in the background. They left Noto Town and traveled west to Wajima City.

The last stamp and the last PC competition of day two were held at the Wajima Kiriko Art Museum in Wajima City. The entrants were competing the competition as hard as they could and trying not to lose their concentration. After finishing the competition, they traveled south to Nanao City.

The entrants arrived at KAGAYA in Nanao City where the finish line of day two was set. They drove approximately 380km and had a lot of events today. They looked tired, but at the same time looked satisfied.

In Hokuriku where we visited for the first time, local people warmly welcomed us at every point, and since it was Saturday, many children also came to see the event. Over the past few years, the way of interaction has changed, and we were not able to interact with local people in some years. I am very pleased we can now connect with local communities again.

Today the entrants fully enjoyed the scenery and driving, such as the sparkling sea of the Noto Peninsula, the fresh green mountains, the coastal road and the winding road among mountains.

On day three, the entrants are driving approximately 230km mainly in Ishikawa Prefecture and also in Toyama Prefecture. Will they be able to complete the whole distance safely? The second half of the event is about to start and we are concerned about the condition of the cars.
